Alakh Nayan Mandir Eye Institute works towards fulfilling of its mission of “Providing Quality Vision to All”. It has been touching numerous lives in this pursuit, by making high quality eye care accessible to the most vulnerable populations. In continuum of this, a series of free eye screening camps were organized in the region with a specific target on the unreached people.
Past three months have witnessed another pace in the direction of comprehensive eye care. 83 Free Eye Camps were organized in remote rural and tribal villages around Udaipur benefiting over 7500 eye patients for various eye ailments, majority of them being cataracts. 1639 patients were operated upon for various eye diseases.
While creating awareness for eye care camps and community programs, our team has also done extensive door to door screening. A personalized approach has been incorporated to enhance health seeking behavior amongst local villagers who otherwise are illiterate and avoid taking eye health as priority. Field workers have screened patients at their door steps.

They are then operated in the most modern hi tech operation theatres to ensure quality and safety.
Last three months of August, September and October 2019, a total of 1668 surgeries were done and out these 876 surgeries were totally free of cost. The free sight restoring surgeries were performed upon economically weaker sections of the community. All these patients were transferred to the base hospital for the same. Beside, numerous awareness campaigns have been organized in this period. World Sight Day was celebrated on 10 October 2019 in which various awareness programs were conducted in remote villages. World Sight Day is celebrated to create awareness and importance about eye health in the general population.

Examination in camps
Alakh Nayan Mandir Eye Institute has been providing free services for the economically under privileged eye patients of regions in Southern Rajasthan, India. Cataract camps and services are being offered on a regular basis. These sight restoring surgeries are done for patients being brought to the base hospital after an initial screening at the camp site in villages.
During the last months from May 2019 till July 2019, more than 1500 patients have been screened through various camps. 650 surgeries have been performed at the hospital, absolutely free of cost to the patients. Major cost of these surgeries have been borne by the hospital itself. These surgeries have helped patients regain their lost sight and are now able to lead better quality of life. Their dependency on others has reduced and sense of wellbeing has increased.
Support from more donors for such cataract surgeries will help us provide services to a large population of Southern Rajasthan where magnitude of blindness is quite high as compared to other parts of India.
