Sampark identify and build the capacities of SathiSamuha (women community leaders members in labour colonies where migrants workers are living.  Sathi Samuha members are selected based on whoever volunteers to take the post from the colony.    In each colony there should be 4-5 Sathi Samuha members.

The contact information of theSathi Samuha is displayed in the Early Childhood care and Development Centre (ECCD)for  anyone, the colony members, or the child care centre staff, who needs to reach outto them.

Role and Tasks of the Sathi Samuha Members

  • The Sathi Samuha gives the residents of the labour colony within formation about the facilities provided by the child care centre for both the children and theirparents.
  • They inform new families in the colony about the ECCD centre service and thebenefits of enrolling their children in the child care centre. Another example of the information they can provide is the services and facilities for pregnant women, such as immunization and nutrition during pregnancy.
  • TheSathi Samuha also informs the child care centre team about the residents of the labour colony. This information could include any incidents pertaining to the children in the colony, such as any illness or issues they are facing.
  • Furthermore, the colony's residents may be hesitant to directly communicate with the child care centre staff about any issues they are facing and can hence connect with them through the Sathi Samuha.
  • The Sathi Samuha also keep an eye on the children in the colony when their parents are working, and when the childcare centre is closed on Sunday and during holidays.
  • They inform the teacher immediately if there is some issue in the colony.
  •  Sampark ran a campaign of “Mobile4Akka”. The donations raised through the campaign are used to purchase 10 smart phones and distributed to 10 Sathi Samuha leaders who are supporting in migrant workers labor colonies.

  • These Sathi Samuha upgraded from basic key pad mobile phones to smart phones.  They are using these smart phones for digital payments transactions.    These 10 Sathi Samuha leaders made their whatsapp group and updating their work related to enrolling the new children to the ECCD centers and creating awareness about importance of immunization and nutrition and health care of children of migrant families in the labor colonies.  They are excited in making payments through UPI while purchasing groceries and vegetables and also able to book Uber or Ola APPs for their transport.  They are enjoying talking in video call with their extended family members who are staying in their source villages.  These leaders training other young women on how to use smart phones and how to do digital transactions.
