Pre pandemic we had started working on the Infant hearing screening program which is the key for early identification and intervention of hearing impaired. With the onset of Covid -19 it was time to rethink everything including the therapies that were provided in person. We had to change our modality to suit the current requirement and reach out to the beneficiaries wherever they were to provide our early intervention services through Tele practice services and we reached 40 plus children and did more than 200 therapies sessions.
There were new cases enrolled just before the lockdown and some referred from other centres that did not have the right resource for the therapy. Children from these families had just got cochlear implant and had no clue about the therapy process. We are glad we could reach out to them and explain to them the need of attending therapy through Tele practice although we had never interacted with them in person.
Established in 2010, the Dhvani - Early Intervention Centre for Hearing Impaired is a unique and comprehensive program envisioned by Save The Children India. It aims to provide early identification and intervention services to young children suffering from hearing loss, by providing them with state-of-the-art facilities under one roof.
With your continued support, we aim to provide support to children with hearing impairments, and keep them engaged during this pandemic.
