On the 22nd of January 2021, we at STCI organized a certification program, pertaining to the Enterpreurnship Development Program that we have been running with survivors of Human Trafficking. As a part of the program activity, we have been busy training the survivors on how to start their own Micro-enterprise. Having started this program in November 2019, till now we have been able to train 80 survivors and 31 survivors have go on to start their own enterprises. The enterprises cover a broad range of businesses, including small salon set-ups, snack corners, platforms dealing in dry fruits, garments, flowers etc.
On the 22nd of January 2021, 25 survivors attended this certification program. During this program, everyone shared their journey of establishing their enterprises, and spoke of the support and emotional help offered by their family members and/or partners. Some of them got emotional as well, while sharing their journey. Many went on to mention that now that they have something of their own name, it gives them a sense of responsibility, self-sufficienncy and independence.
All of them are still in the experimental and learning phase. Couple of them out of this group have also starting attending to supplementary or alternative businesses as well.
