"I have been threatened and forced to do unimaginable things till I was rescued and was brought under rehabilitation programme by Save The Children India. The biggest thing I got here, was hope -- that it wasn’t the end. The didi’s before me have gone on to become air hostesses, teachers, and hotel managers! I found that the world isn’t cruel, only a few people are...and I wouldn’t let them define me and fill me with hate. So, I love my life and my friends here, my mentors and my education -- I’m studying to become an engineer someday. My dream is to have my own home, where my brothers and I can live in freedom.
Like Lata (name changed), 1000s of girls are dreaming to have a better life. One of the core priorities of Save the Children India is to help them achieve these dreams. These children have suffered a lot. From abuse, neglect, exploitation, physical danger to violence. Let’s help them realize the power of humanity.
Trafficking of persons is a global phenomenon that adversely affects millions of human lives. It not only undermines rule of law and human rights but also constitutes the most heinous crime against humanity especially women and children. The project aims at working with law enforcement to rescue women and girls trapped in abuse and exploitation. Restore the lives and dignity of those rescued and deliver justice to them by ensuring effective prosecution which will prevent trafficking of many others.
India is a country having about 18 million people living in modern-day slavery is challenged with intra-state, interstate and Inter-country trafficking and mocked by constant change in trafficking tricks deployed by the traffickers. Even though the government, Law enforcement and Judiciary have shown clear commitment to combat crime of trafficking, there is a need of supporting their efforts by providing legal counseling support and restoration to survivor for life of dignity & self respect.
The project you supported aims at strengthening protection measures that are available for survivors in the state in a way that they are well cared and protected, ensured access to justice by legal counselling and assistance, and speedy repatriation and reintegration eventually reducing the incidence of trafficking to Maharashtra by accelerating the rate of conviction and stringent punishment of traffickers through systemic, scientific and coordinated criminal justice response.
Due to support provided, we have been able to enroll 30 survivros in the programme and completed the baseline to assertain the educational as well as psychological support that needs to be provided. Going forward we will create a individualied plan for each ones rehabilitation to ensure their futue with dignity and self respect.
The sustained support to this project will help us reach out directly to 500 survivors rescued in India. The organisation in partnership with other stakeholder will work in restoration, rehabilitation and effective prosecution for bringing traffickers to justice which in near future will increase cost of trade of women and girls making it less profitable and eventually will make dent in trafficking Eco system.
Thank you for all all your support.
