Sonoshi, is a tribal Village in Maharashtra, India. With a population of 1200, it has a primary school library as it Sole source of modern education. However, with no state funding for quality teaching aids & content, it is leaving young minds to migrate or face unemployment & disillusionment. The village has therefore organized & committed itself to repair & upgrade their library. They have started pooling in time, labor & some money your support will bridge the gap to realize their goals.
The village with only one primary school struggles with lack of quality & higher education & infrastructural facilitates. The youth are unable to compete in employment opportunists and are forced to migrate. Children are demotivated to attend school as their is nothing beyond the classroom to engage them into enriching reading habits. With 70% population comprising of youth & children this disillusionment has started presenting itself in form of other social threats like addition etc
For the first time, with facilitation support from Drishtee, the community has organized itself to come together and find a solution to this problem. The very fact that it is a community led project it is seeing high engagement of youth & children, helping them move from despair to hope. Once the school library is upgraded and functional, the village believes that not only youth & kids but all segments, youth, women farmers etc will be motivated to enrich themselves with knowledge.
The project will have a direct impact on 1200 villagers, Even though the focus is on children and youth, however once the initial infrastructural needs are met they will be able to sustain the recurring cost through community contributions and that will motivate all contributors to come and use the library and gain knowledge. As their first community led project, its success will instill in them the confidence and ownership towards common well being.
