Report on "Save Innocent Birds Trapped" July - Nov

By Mohummad Hassan | Cofounder

Reporting Period: July 2024 – October 2024

Organization: Green Fund Initiative, New York, USA

Location: Bangladesh

Executive Summary

The "Save Innocent Birds Trapped in Deadly Nets" project in Bangladesh, launched by Green Fund Initiative in March 2024, continues to protect fish-eating birds from harmful nets used by fish farms. From July to October 2024, we conducted 10 rescue operations, saving 32 birds and engaging local communities, despite limited funding and some resistance. Future plans include establishing a treatment center, expanding training, and increasing community outreach to further reduce bird entanglement incidents.

Key Activities and Accomplishments

  • Rescue Operations: Conducted 10 rescues, saving 32 birds.
  • Community Outreach: Held 3 community meetings, reached 45 fish farmers, distributed arounfd 100 educational leaflets, and engaged local schools.
  • Temporary Rehabilitation Facility: Established a small facility to provide emergency care, though limited due to funding.

Challenges

  • Limited Funds: Restricted budget affected scaling efforts and treatment facility development.
  • Community Resistance: Some fish farmers remain hesitant to adopt bird-friendly practices.
  • Treatment Limitations: Temporary facility unable to fully meet needs of injured birds.

Future Plans

  1. Establish a permanent rehabilitation center.
  2. Increase training and recruitment of volunteers.
  3. Expand community awareness campaigns.
  4. Strengthen local partnerships to enhance resources and support.

Conclusion

From July to October 2024, the Green Fund Initiative made significant strides in bird rescue and community education despite funding challenges. Looking forward, we aim to establish a treatment facility and deepen outreach to ensure ongoing bird conservation.
