Guardians deploys to Kentucky Flood

Dear Friend of Guardians,

There is never a shortage of animals who need help to escape dangerous situations and to find the new safe, loved lives they always deserved.

In the past few months there have been many, and we'd like to show you just some of the lives you have helped save and change as a supporter of Guardians of Reacue.

KENTUCKY FLOODS

The whole country just watched Kentucky as devastating flooding claimed lives, destroyed homes and forced countless evacuations.

The Governor quickly declared a State of Emergency.

When disaster strikes, animals suffer too. Pets become separated from their families, livestock are stranded, and overwhelmed shelters struggle to meet the need.

That's why Guardians of Rescue deployed to Kentucky to assist with rescue and relief efforts, helping both people and the animals who depend on them. Every life matters, and we are committed to bringing help and hope where it's needed most.

SIMON IS SAFE... AND HE'S HEALING

When we received a call that a feral cat was being threatened with a gun after allegedly fighting with another family's cats, Guardians didn't hesitate. We stepped in fast, rescued him, and gave him a name: Simon.

It was immediately clear that Simon needed a lot of help. His face and parts of his body showed painful burn injuries, and he was covered in ticks. Like many feral cats, he was understandably frightened and distrustful of people, but we made him as comfortable as possible with food, fresh water, and gentle removal of ticks while arranging for an immediate veterinary examination.

The good news is that Simon is already making remarkable progress.

His veterinary exam revealed that the burns on his face and several other areas of his body appear to be chemical in origin. We may never know exactly how he suffered these injuries, but we do know he's finally safe.

As his discomfort eases with treatment and the ticks are removed, Simon is beginning to trust us. In just a short time, he's gone from refusing all contact to allowing us to gently touch his face—a small gesture that speaks volumes about the healing that's taking place, both physically and emotionally.

Simon went from being unwanted and facing a death sentence to being surrounded by gentle hands determined to give him a second chance.

That's only possible because of supporters like you. Your generosity allows Guardians to say "YES!" when desperate calls come in for animals with nowhere else to turn.

We'll continue doing everything we can to help Simon heal, and you are an important part of his path to recovery—your support has made a real difference.

MAMA STERLING AND HER FIVE KITTENS: SAFE, TOGETHER, AND ON THE ROAD TO A BETTER FUTURE

When Guardians received a call from the local Sheriff about a mother cat and her five kittens who had been abandoned alongside a dangerous Kentucky highway, we knew every moment mattered. Our rescue team rushed to the scene before tragedy could strike.

Thankfully, we were able to bring the entire little family to safety.

We named the devoted mother Sterling. While our veterinary team discovered she appears to have an older leg injury, she's now receiving the care she needs. Her five beautiful kittens, despite everything they've been through, are healthy, safe, and beginning their journey toward bright new lives.

We can only imagine what was going through their minds after being dumped in such a dangerous place. Today, instead of speeding traffic and uncertainty, they're surrounded by loving, dedicated people committed to helping them heal and thrive.

This little family's story is just beginning, and we look forward to seeing their progress in the weeks ahead.

Rescues like Sterling's happen because compassionate supporters make them possible. Your generosity allows Guardians to intervene quickly when desperate calls come in, providing the fuel to reach animals in crisis, the veterinary care they need, nourishing food, safe foster care and every step on the journey to the happy, loving lives they were always meant to have.

NAVA AND OSITO—TRASH TO THE BREEDER, PRICELESS TO US

Nava and Osito deserved love, safety, and compassion…instead they became victims of the ugly reality of backyard breeding.

These two little souls were dumped at an emergency veterinary clinic to be euthanized because they were no longer “useful” to the breeder. The male reportedly “wouldn’t breed,” and the female only carried one puppy. The exact words spoken by the Amish breeder were: “They aren’t worth feeding if they don’t earn their keep.”

Let that sink in. To some people, animals are treated like disposable property and money-making machines. When they can no longer produce profit, they are discarded like trash.

No medical care. No compassion. No loyalty. Just abandonment and a death sentence.

Thankfully, Guardians was able to give Nava and Osito a second chance. These babies are now safe, but they have needed extensive medical care, proper nutrition, love and time to heal from the neglect they endured.

Cases like this are exactly why we continue to fight against irresponsible breeding and the cruel treatment of animals who cannot speak for themselves. No animal’s worth should ever be measured by how much money they can produce.

TESHA — FROM DESPERATE RESCUE TO A HAPPY DOG WITH A BRIGHT FUTURE

When police in rural Georgia responded to a report of a six-week-old puppy with suspected stab wounds, Guardians of Rescue was called in to help. What Guardians discovered was heartbreaking. Instead of puncture wounds, the tiny puppy—later named Tesha—was suffering from severe thermal burns extending from the base of her neck to her tail.

Tesha was in excruciating pain. Even the gentlest touch was unbearable, and she required immediate emergency veterinary care. Her case quickly became part of an active animal cruelty investigation.

She spent her first days in a local emergency veterinary hospital, where she received intensive stabilization, pain management, antibiotics, and around-the-clock care. Once she was strong enough, Tesha was transferred to a specialty veterinary hospital for advanced wound treatment. Specialists carefully evaluated whether skin grafting would be necessary or even possible for a puppy so young. Although her road to recovery was expected to be long and challenging, Tesha responded remarkably well to treatment. As her wounds began to heal, she was fitted with a protective suit to help safeguard her fragile skin.

Today, Tesha's transformation has been nothing short of inspiring.

Under the care of Guardians of Rescue and her dedicated veterinary team, her burns have healed beautifully. She is bright, energetic, playful, and finally enjoying life as every puppy should.

Meanwhile, justice is moving forward. Two individuals have been charged with aggravated animal cruelty and filing a false report in connection with Tesha's case.

The frightened, badly injured puppy who fought so hard to survive has become a happy, healthy young dog, and she's now preparing for the next exciting chapter of her life as we begin searching for the loving forever home she deserves.

We'll continue to stand beside Tesha—as you have—from the moment she was rescued until the day she finds her forever family. Your compassion and support made her recovery possible, and together we're giving this courageous little survivor the future she was always meant to have.

A BITTERSWEET GOODBYE TO MANDY

Guardians marked the end of one dog's incredible rescue journey with us. Mandy, the very last dog from our large Mississippi rescue case, officially headed to one of our trusted adoption partners to begin the search for her forever home.

When Mandy first came into our care, she was severely underweight, suffering from heartworms, and loaded with parasites. Like so many of the dogs rescued from that property she had endured hardships no animal should ever have to face.

Over the past months, Mandy has transformed into a happy, outgoing, and incredibly sweet dog. She has learned what it means to be safe, cared for, and loved. Watching her blossom has been one of the greatest rewards of this rescue mission.

As Mandy takes this next step, we reflect on the 200 dogs that were rescued from this case and the countless hours of dedication that went into saving their lives. None of this would have been possible without our amazing volunteers, foster homes, rescue partners and generous donors who stood beside us every step of the way. Thank you!

Good luck, sweet Mandy. Your forever family is out there waiting for you, and we can’t wait to see where your journey leads next.

200 DOG EMERGENCY IN MISSISSIPPI, AND GUARDIANS GETS THE CALL...

A new beginning for lives just beginning

Dear Friends of Guardians,

While Guardians routinely serves animals in many ways, the biggest recent news is Guardians' urgent deployment to Mississippi to help 200 dogs whose large numbers resulted from uncontrolled breeding among the same dogs already on the property over many years.

An initially small number of dogs gradually exploded in numbers due to a lack of spay/neuter and proper care over a decade or more.

Arriving at the property at the break of dawn, Guardians worked with Chief Jason Lessel, North MS Animal Care & Control Association, and Lee County Animal Control, Lee County, Mississippi, who discovered this horrifying situation and initiated this rescue action for the dogs.

The situation was dire—looking at the untreated injuries and condition of these dogs was enough to make you cry... these dogs were in a desperate situation, and we had to act fast due to frigid temperatures there,

There were dogs everywhere, in below freezing conditions and confused by the unfamiliar noise, action and faces. We can only imagine what was in their minds as this intense scene unfolded.

Many of the dogs were lab-type mixes, ranging in age and temperament. While several were in fair physical condition, the sheer number of animals and the conditions they were living in had made it impossible to provide proper care, sanitation, and daily oversight. Many of the dogs needed long-delayed veterinary care. Many were pregnant, the ongoing cause of the exploding number of dogs there. Many gave birth just days after being removed from the property. Those babies would have struggled just as hundreds before them did.

It was hard to imagine these dogs having survived for so long with no real shelter or care. It's safe to assume that over the years, some did not.

Working with rescue/adoption partners, Guardians took the dogs to a staging area to have their condition assessed, where we dealt with the most urgent medical cases and began vetting and removing dogs and connecting them with our rescue partners to continue the job of getting the animals healthy and ready for adoption into new safe, happy lives.

Our Guardians team also searched the property for newborn puppies, finding a litter of five and a litter of six—thank goodness they were not left alone to freeze.

Because of the support of donors like you, we were able to go to Mississippi to tackle this huge rescue, and to bring a number of the dogs still unclaimed by adoption partners to Guardians' Kentucky foster location for medical care, as we work to locate additional partners to take in the remaining dogs for preparation for adoption.

With all the dogs finally off the property, connecting with more organizations to take in the remaining dogs has been and remains a real challenge. As we write this, we still have 5 sweet dogs in foster, and are reaching out widely to find more partners and a path to moving them closer toward their new happy lives. In the end, despite the previous suffering and the almost impossible task of getting each dog safe, removed and healthy, every dog who left that unhappy situation since Day One of Guardians' presence will soon know what it's like to live in a warm house, lounge on a couch and be pampered and loved.

Puppy Mill Dogs-Chained by Greed, Unchained by Guardians and You

Dear Friend of Guardians of Rescue,

Puppy mills in the US are a dark side of the pet industry. These facilities typically house large numbers of breeding dogs in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions. The dogs often lack proper veterinary care, nutrition, and socialization. These animals are used for one thing — profit.

These puppies are sold in pet stores and websites, and they are found for sale at roadside flea markets. These animals often suffer from malnutrition, untreated illnesses, and parasites. Breeding females are continuously exploited until their bodies are exhausted, and puppies are often taken from their mothers too early.

Puppy mills are everywhere; they are in neighborhoods, in back yards, in small storage sheds, they are in basements and, often, in barns. After the mother dog is too weak to produce another puppy she is often discarded like a piece of trash, because she is no longer able to make money for the operators.

Saving dogs from puppy mills is a priority for Guardians, and over the years we have worked with Law Enforcement to shut down and empty these heartless puppy factories. Sometimes we are able to get dogs surrendered to us by active mills, when the dogs are no longer useful to them as breeders.

Here are a few of the mill survtivors we have recently taken in to our medical foster for physical and mental healing. Their previous life of neglect leaves scars of both kinds, and they need a tremendous amount of care and love to emerge as the dogs they were meant to be and to find the happy new lives they deserve in loving homes.

PUMPKIN

Pumpkin, a miniature poodle, is one of those mothers, and has had her share of puppies. Her tiny frail body trembles in fear at every noise she hears. When we found her, her coat was matted and loaded with fleas and fecal matter. Her toenails were so long they wrapped around her paw, making it hard to stand and walk. She was very dehydrated and underweight. Sick from the untreated intestinal parasites and infection, she haed suffered for a long time.

As bad as this all is, the saddest part of this all is her emotional state; she stands in fear and trembles. even though she is safe now, we can only imagine what she went through all the years imprisoned as a puppy mill mom.

Puppy mill dogs show survival behaviors—Pumpkin protects her food. She will dump her bowl and hide the kibble under her blanket. She will stand in place for hours even though now she is able to move freely. Her trauma is deep.

But Pumpkin is receiving medical care and lots of love, and we are showing her that people can be kind and that life can be good.

PEANUT

Hidden away in a forgotten corner of a puppy mill, Peanut's life was a cycle of endless litters. Her happiness and health were not important to her jailers, just the money she could produce by being bred. over and over.

Peanut existed solely to produce "product", her worth measured in the number of puppies she birthed for sale. Her days were marked by discomfort and neglect, her nights filled with the cries of her young, soon taken from her, loss after loss.

Then, a beacon of hope appeared on the horizon—Guardians Of Rescue, dedicated to saving animals from dire situations, learned of Peanut's plight. We arrived, not a moment too soon, and gently took her into our care.

It was the first act of kindness she had ever known, but her life would be only kindness from now on.

You and Guardians, together, have saved so many suffering animals like Peanut together that this partnership became our motto—Together we save them.

DOLLY —ANOTHER PUPPY MILL MOM WE SAVED TOGETHER

A backyard breeder in Robertson County, Kentucky, used Dolly to breed puppies and didn't care enough about her to give her even the most basic standard of care. Left in a small freezing building, her horrendously matted coat was damp and filthy with her own urine and feces that covered the floor and every surface - she had no option but to sit and sleep in the mess; breathing in dangerously high levels of ammonia that made her eyes burn. Even worse, she wasn't alone. 13 other suffering souls were trapped there with her.

With severe upper respiratory infections, open wounds, eye infections, internal parasites and low rapidly-dropping body scores, these dogs wouldn't have survived much longer and their abuser didn't care. To them, the dogs were only valued as dollar signs....but not to us, and not to you.

Thanks to your support for Guardians of Rescue, Dolly was rescued and transformed, and the photos speak for themselves.

Guardians works to end this profit-driven cruelty; to seek justice for the victims of greedy heartless humans, and make sure innocent animals can know the life of love and safety that should always have been theirs. Thank you for making transformations like this possible!

THE TRANSFORMATION OF HENRY

When we save a severely neglected dog from a puppy mill, it is immediately life-changing for them to get cleaned up and relieved of the constant pain and discomfort caused by that neglect.

It is a relief to us, too, to see the real dog emerge from the years of suffering.

When we saved Henry from a puppy mill hell-hole in Colbert County, Alabama, he barely looked like a dog. Once freed from his prison of hair, it turned out there was someone under there after all!

These are the types of comfort and happiness you help to provide when you donate. Without you empowering Guardians, Henry would still be trapped and suffering, if he had survived at all.

TWO RESCUED CHIHUAHUAS WHO CAME WITH PASSENGERS

When Guardians rescued six Chihuahuas from a terrible Tennessee neglect case, we suspected that two of the dogs were pregnant.

Recently, Chica and LaBitty proved we were right. At the end of July,, Chica welcomed four adorable babies—Nacho , Bruno , Lila and Silas—into the world and into Guardians' foster care. In September, LaBitty added three adorable babies, Dinky, Mini and Trixie to the family

We don't even want to picture the fate of these innocent puppies had we not had your support to get their mama dog out of there in time to be born where they are cherished insrtead of exploited.

Until our society decides to end these abusive breeding mills for good, the need never ends. These are just a few of the many, many puppy mill dogs Guardians has rescued with your help. and these and so many others got a second chance at a real life because you are there to help this mission of mercy,
