Get Team Burundi to the Street Child World Cup

Team Burundi will leave Bujumbura, Burundi in ten days time. All because of the generous donations made by numerous individuals (and one company) who have donated to the project.

Dieudonne Nahimana, who runs New Generation in Burundi, is currently in Nairobi securing visas for the Burundian team members. To get those visas, every child on the team needed a passport and it is almost unheard of in Burundi for street children to be able to access the required documents, not least because they often don't know how old they are, never mind what their date of birth is. The government of Burundi provided the required documents a few weeks ago and the team are almost ready to go.

The team are in the final stages of training for the competition and will do their best to represent the country as ambassadors for Burundi at the first World Cup that Burundi has ever taken part in.

Follow the progress of Team Burundi by keeping an eye on the Street Child World Cup website (www.streetchildworldcup.org) throughout the tournament. The website will have the latest news and football results from the tournament as well as a daily film showing a mix of football highlights and feedback from the Street Child Summit. At this summit, the street children themselves will discuss the issues that they face and agree what needs to change to ensure that no child lives on the streets.

Together through football, art and campaigning we aim to challenge the negative perceptions and treatment of street children around the world.
