The United Nations Millennium Development Goal 2 targets the completion of primary education by all boys and girls. Unfortunately, compared to boys, girls are more likely to drop out of school and have less performance. This project will provide financial support to 250 girls from Bangolan village in the North West Region of Cameroon (West Africa) and this to permit them complete primary and secondary education.
Compared to boys, girls are more likely to drop out of school and have less performance (1). In Bangolan village during the 2010/2011 academic year, there were more girls than boys in nursery school (sex ratio: 0.93), the number was equal in primary school and there were more boys than girls in secondary school, sex ratio: 1, 14 (2). The lack of sponsorship, early marriages and pregnancies were identified as the main reasons for school dropout among girls.
The project will provide financial support to girls for the payment of school fees, uniforms, books and other school materials. In addition, the project will educate parents on the importance of girl education and educate female students on contraceptive methods.
This project will send 250 young girls to school. Educated girls are likely to marry later and have fewer children, who in turn will be more likely to survive and be better nourished and educated. Educated girls will grow up to be more productive in the community and participate more actively in social, economic and decision-making in their community
