Lokman Hekim Health Foundation: Transforming Lives Through Education,
Healthcare, and Sustainability

Since its founding in 1986, the Lokman Hekim Health Foundation has worked tirelessly to bridge gaps in healthcare access, nurture the next generation of qualified doctors, and foster sustainable social change. Over the past three months, the foundation has achieved several impactful milestones, highlighting its unwavering commitment to improving lives and strengthening communities.

Empowering Future Doctors Through Education

Education is at the heart of the Lokman Hekim Health Foundation’s mission. For the 2024–2025 academic year, nine new medical students joined our scholarship program, raising the total number of scholars to 118. To symbolize the beginning of their medical careers, the new scholars received stethoscopes. These students are not just receiving financial assistance but are also gaining opportunities to grow academically and personally. Thanks to generous contributions from the Swiss-Turkish Association and Lenovo Türkiye, 30 tablets were distributed to scholars in need, enabling better access to digital learning resources. Additionally, Is Bankas Publishing enriched their education with curated book sets, and the first online English lessons were launched to prepare students for the global healthcare landscape. Understanding that professional presentation fosters credibility, Flo provided winter clothing and shoes for all scholars, ensuring they are equipped both practically and professionally. Beyond academics, the foundation prioritized cultural enrichment with theater visits at Zorlu PSM and an inspiring trip to Istanbul Modern Museum, nurturing well-rounded future healthcare leaders.

Disaster Preparedness and Response: Strengthening Resilience

Disaster preparedness has become a cornerstone of our mission to safeguard public health. In the past quarter, we participated in an Earthquake Preparedness Simulation for Istanbul and attended the “Disaster Readiness and Emergency Response Workshop,” hosted by the Disaster Platform. Building on the lessons learned from our response to the 2023 Türkiye earthquakes, these efforts aim to refine our emergency strategies.

Our approach focuses on readiness, collaboration, and rapid resource mobilization. We actively support healthcare workers, distribute essential supplies, and deliver aid to communities in need. These proactive measures strengthen healthcare systems, enhance community resilience, and reduce the impact of disasters.

Rational Use of Medicines: Leveraging Social Media for Public Health

Our Rational Use of Medicines campaign has continued to raise awareness about the dangers of self-medication and antibiotic misuse. Collaborating with social media influencers, the campaign reached younger audiences, amplifying its message about the importance of safe medication practices. This initiative blends WHO guidelines and Türkiye’s Ministry of Health standards with modern communication strategies, proving that impactful health education can be both innovative and accessible.

Healthcare and Social Responsibility: Bridging Care and Sustainability

In collaboration with E-Bebek, we conducted a meaningful initiative at Hatay Reyhanl State Hospital’s newborn unit. Combining healthcare with sustainability, the project included health screenings for newborns and their families, as well as the distribution of essential baby itemscollected through E-Bebek’s community network. This effort reflects our commitment to providing critical support to vulnerable communities while promoting sustainable practices.
