The following has occurred since our last report:
HKI has procured and distributed 14 varieties of good quality seeds to all 28 VMFs and 1,000 households.
HKI and both partner NGOs supported the VMFs to construct improved poultry shelters to keep poultry from harm. (A proper poultry shelter is essential to poultry and egg production.)
HKI supported the VMFs with irrigation facilities including 15 hand pumps, 8 pipes and 5 water pumps. (Appropriate irrigation of VMFs is essential during dry periods to ensure the year-round production of vegetables, fruit, seeds, seedlings, and saplings.)
2,084 chicks were distributed – three to each VMF and two to each household. HKI also supported all VMFs with vaccination kits and vaccines to prevent and control poultry diseases.
HKI provided several refresher training sessions to strengthen participants' newly acquired skills and knowledge. Refresher trainings were provided to partners NGOs, the VMF owners, village health volunteers, and a selection of women farmers/gardeners.
