Future Rising is a new Girl Rising initiative to address the deep links between girls' education and the world's ability to address climate change. A multi-pronged storytelling project, public awareness campaign, and education program, Future Rising aims to advance girls' access to quality education and influence leaders to prioritize gender equity, and specifically educating girls, as part of climate change and climate justice action.
Climate change and girls' education are inextricably linked but this connection is not widely recognized. Girl's education isn't featured as a top intervention in addressing climate change at global, national, or local levels. At a time of rapid climate change that'll affect women and girls first and worst, it's crucial that communities and nations recognize educated girls and women as demonstrably one of the most powerful assets for sustainable development and climate resilience and adaptation.
The campaign will drive support for girls' education and harness the power of educated girls and women to fight climate change. Future Rising works on 3 fronts: Changing norms through storytelling that communicates all aspects of earth's climate story and its link to girls' education. Changing policy through research and advocacy that highlight key data and narratives for improved climate outcomes. Changing lives by incorporating climate-specific content into our programs to educate communities
Capture and share stories about girls' participation and leadership in climate action. Highlight the important linkages between better climate outcomes and educating girls to promote investment in girls' education as fundamental right. Increase the number of G20 nations that list girls' education among their climate change strategies and action agenda. Increase in the number of girls receiving education and training in STEM and green economy-related skills.
