Established in 2007, the Buds Network project empowers underprivileged children in Tamil Nadu through after-school educational support. In 2016, our Buds Centres had to be put on hold due to a lack of funds. In 2023, we reinstated a Buds Centre in the village of Thathankulam, and we are running five additional Centres providing support to more than 150 vulnerable children. Our goal is to open 50 Centres in total to reach over 2,500 vulnerable children in Tamil Nadu with supplementary education!
Across Tamil Nadu there are large numbers of vulnerable children with no access to after-school educational support due to domestic complications such as low financial status and limited parental involvement. In 2016, our Buds Network after-school program faced an unfortunate setback due to a lack of funds and had to be put on hold. Today, we have revived seven centres in Virudhunagar district but we regularly receive requests for opening new centres, from Panchayat leaders and outreach workers.
With further funds, we will be able to expand our Buds Network project, and reopen more Buds Centres in Madurai and Virudhunagar districts. We will ensure that children have access to a safe learning space, provided with the necessary school materials, clean water, as well as constant support from local teachers. Our aim is to empower them through education, providing them with life skills for a brighter future, as well as fostering a mutual support network.
By providing after-school educational support to vulnerable children, we will motivate them to improve their academic performance, ensuring access to equal opportunities for the upcoming generations and enhanced sense of inclusion and mutual support. The project envisages a future where children's socio-educational integration is not hindered by their economic background.
