Minga House Foundation's Chinchina Bilingue - Future Bilingual Leaders expands access to quality bilingual education through Colegio Menfis, a nonprofit school in Colombia's coffee region. For 2026, the project will award 50 merit-based scholarships to high-achieving, low-income public school students. Since 2022, over $300,000 has been invested to strengthen infrastructure, teachers, and scholarships, bringing bilingual education to a rural community where it is rarely available.
Rural youth often lack clear, credible pathways that show their effort, discipline, and leadership will be recognized and rewarded. When academic excellence, perseverance, English learning, and community service do not lead to real opportunities, motivation and hope decline. There is a need to identify, acknowledge, and reward young leaders by providing access to bilingual education and international opportunities that can change their future.
Merit-based scholarships create a visible connection between effort and opportunity. By rewarding students who excel academically, demonstrate leadership, and commit to learning English, the program restores hope and motivation among rural youth. Access to quality bilingual education provides language skills, confidence, and global awareness, expanding future academic and career pathways while inspiring other students to strive for excellence.
In the long term, the scholarship program will build a more resilient and prosperous rural coffee-growing community. Bilingual, well-educated youth gain access to higher education, better jobs, and global networks, reducing intergenerational poverty. As local leaders and role models, they inspire others, strengthen community leadership, and connect the region to international opportunities while preserving its agricultural roots.
