Summary

Our Charity is trying to fund the 125 a year school fees for at least 100 orphans and poorest kids in this slum settlement in Kenya. The current economic crisis is worsened by the travel ban imposed by several governments resulting in the closure of hotels and businesses and the loss of employment for the parents from the village. Many kids can't attend school as parents struggle to provide food for their families. For every 8 kids we fund, we are able to pay a month's salary for 12 teachers

Challenge

Our registered Charity has raised money to replace 9 dilapidated classrooms, build a kitchen and a security wall around the school. Our next project was to have been to replace another block to include dormitory accommodation for the many orphans who roam the village, but the current crisis involving the loss of employment in the tourist service industry has meant parents who did have jobs, have lost them and can no longer send their children to school.

Solution

Each 8 children for whom we can raise the 125 annual school fees, means that we can transfer 1,000 to the school so that they can pay that month's salary to the teachers and keep the school open for all of the kids, including orphans

Long-Term Impact

If we are unable to keep the school open by raising money to sponsor the kids, then all of the efforts involved both in Kenya and ourselves in the UK will have been wasted. Not only the kids, but their families and the whole community will benefit by keeping the school open until the current economic crisis is resolved and we can return to our task of improving the educational facilities in the village The school can only function with paid teachers.
