The Training Day Event took place on the 20th September at the school. At that time, they already had the books for the Reading Corner, the program manual, and the telephone contact with Fundación Leer specialists who have given them advice for undertaking the project.
The training event covered the following contents: Open Book Program methodology, children book selection criteria, how to promote reading in children, how to profit from the Reading Corner to get children interested in books, how to get families involved in children’s reading skills’ development.
The space chosen for the Reading Corner was a classroom with some computers installed. They decorated the classroom during October with the help of children and their families. Every family made a cushion and teachers made "book wallets" to put new books in.
The Reading Corner was inaugurated on the 4th November 2011. Many activities took place at the Opening Event: dramatization of stories by children, a symbolic ribbon cutting, a free tour, reading at the Reading Corner and an evening tea together.
Action to be undertaken: to establish a Reading Corner timetable, to implement various reading motivator activities there through phone and e-mail advice and follow up by Fundación Leer.
