Summary

The Lifebuoy Friendship Hospital (LFH) is a floating hospital that has been providing healthcare to the remote, riverine islands of Bangladesh for over 20 years where shifting, impermanent landscapes mean very limited access to reliable medical services. After two decades of changing lives, the LFH requires needs to be rebuilt. Your contributions will help fund the reconstruction and consequently continue to save lives, give hope and bring dignity to the people of remote, rural Bangladesh.

Challenge

The LFH has rendered 1,066,671 healthcare services to 657,182 patients through its service life, and has since gotten on in age. To continue rendering life-changing, and lifesaving services in these marginalised areas, the ship needs to be rebuilt. The complete reconstruction costs USD 250,000, most of which has been covered by our generous donors. You can help bridge the funding gap, and allow these communities to continue to benefit from the healthcare services that they have become reliant on

Solution

The LFH will dock in Dec and construction will continue till March. Once the work is complete, the new floating hospital will head back to its previous service areas in the Brahmaputra River basin to continue to serve these inaccessible communities for another decade and render essential, reliable, and otherwise unavailable access to healthcare, especially during the climatic disasters endemic to the region. These isolated, river-island communities require services to come to them to be viable

Long-Term Impact

LFH is not just a hospital, but the centre of a 3-tier healthcare system designed to deliver service to every household in the most isolated communities. Featuring satellite clinics, community medics, and a mobile app connecting them to doctors hundreds of kilometres away, this healthcare system delivers 25 million services a year. By supporting LFH, you are supporting a robust and lasting healthcare system that can be scaled to be a solution for climate-impacted communities around the world
