At A Critical Stage - We Need Your Help!

By Alian Ollivierre-Skeete | Project Leader

Following the recent passing of Hurricane Beryl there have been a number of beneficiaries directly and indirectly impacted as a result.

Instances such as climate disasters create ripple effects of displacement, unempoyment and disrupted homelives.

Your contributions have really been going a long way in ensuring many of our beneficiaries have been supported in the areas where they have been affected the most:

  1. Loss of clean water supply to their homes and communities;
  2. Loss of income and livelihoods (potentially permanently, for those directly working in and around the fishing industry); and,
  3. Increased vulnerability to any future systems, and lack of preparedness should we be more seriously impacted.
We have worked through our community to identify girls and young women leading within their households, who require better preparation, whether previously impacted by past systems or this recent one so that we can reduce vulnerabilities of potential displacement and/or homelessness.
Our emergency housing and displacement interventions have been limited in resources; however, with what we have, we have been able to offer cash and voucher support, access to upskilling, mental wellness resourcing, and mentorship as tools for climate disaster preparedness.
In addition, we also believe very strongly that it is our duty to ensure we help our girls to understand how to fish, own the "fishing" business and be highly successful in building back up the black community wealth that was ripped away due to colonialism.
As such our financial literacy programmes are a key component of how we believe true generational shifts of poverty will occur, and was executed in the last quarter where more than 75 girls benefited from training, mentorship and education small grants as a result.

These initiatives are particularly important now, as it delivers essential support to girls and their families facing heightened challenges due to economic hardships, ongoing social inequalities, and uncertainties related to our annual hurricane season.

Here is where you can come in, and aid us even further:

  1. Share our project with a friend, family member or colleague, and get the word out there that our Small Island States in the Caribbean are in need;
  2. Leave a message of encouragement, support and/or advise that we can pass on to a girl who would love to heard from those that financial contribute to their future; and,
  3. Share on your social challenges your reasons for contributing to our project, to encourage others to do the same.

Thank you so much for all you have done and continue to do for this cause and others just like it.  Your love is truly seen and appreciated!
