Project Report | Dec 14, 2023
Spread The Joy This Holiday Season!

By Alian Ollivierre-Skeete | Project Leader

This report addresses the critical need for support to keep building out our services for emergency intervention for girls in Barbados.

The purpose of emergency intervention is to provide temporary shelter and support to girls in our programmes and families facing homelessness due to unforeseen circumstances such as natural disasters, economic hardships, or personal crises (i.e. gender based violence).

This report examines how we have provided support up until this point with your generosity and consistency and identifies major gaps where further support and contributions would add value.

Project Allocation:

Within the past quarter we have had limited emergency cases to manage; however, we have primarily been serving those who are still in the transitionary phase; i.e. getting permanent set up in their new spaces for Christmas, having access to basic needs such as electricity, and water, and getting better grounded with school and work supplies to continue thriving past adversity.

  1. Distribution of Funds:

    • We have helped to permanently place more than five (5) families.
    • The provision of monthly expenses to aid with transitions from temporary placement to more permanent solutions.
  2. Support Beyond Funds Distributed:

    • More than 100 meal vouchers distributed for healthy nutrition to be maintained.
    • More than 15 girls have received and continue to receive mental health counselling through one-to-one talk therapy on a weekly basis.

We are now currently in a phas where we are testing, learning and taking time to restructure our model of support, to ensure that with funds received we can maximise on how our girls overcome these challenges faced.

Conclusion:

Addressing the challenges and gaps in emergency intervention is crucial for ensuring the well-being and safety of our community members during times of crisis.

By implementing our services, we can work towards creating a more robust and responsive emergency system that meets the diverse needs of our population.

We thank you so much for all that you have done, and continue to do, and in this season of giving, encourage you to share as much as you can with those in your network, so that our services reach those most in need.
