Summary

The rapid spread of COVID-19 has prompted Honduras and El Salvador to announce strict quarantine measures. As a result, the majority of workers have lost their livelihoods and people are struggling to feed their families and meet basic needs. This project will provide critical, on-the-ground support to those most impacted by the pandemic. Your donation will help stop the spread of misinformation, ensure equitable access to federal aid, and improve the food security of thousands of families.

Challenge

Communities in Central America are facing a rapidly growing public health crisis while being heavily impacted by the quarantine measures in place to stop the spread of COVID-19. Informal workers, who make up 75% of the population, can no longer do their jobs and do not have labor protections, savings, or social safety nets to fall back on. Without the ability to work, they cannot provide for their families and the food security of thousands of people is at risk.

Solution

EcoViva will ensure grassroots community organizations on the ground have the resources they need to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on the most vulnerable people. 100% of funds will go directly to our partners as they rapidly respond to the crisis. Their emergency response strategy provides accurate information via community radio, improves food security through vegetable seedling distribution, and supplies protective equipment older adults and the immunocompromised.

Long-Term Impact

This project will equip hundreds of vulnerable communities struggling with the long term socio-economic impacts of this pandemic. Accurate information will help people make good decisions. Protecting the health of those most susceptible to the virus, they run less risk of becoming infected and place less strain on the healthcare system. Seedling and compost distribution will enable families to grow their own food and be able to feed themselves for months to come despite their loss of income.
