Children outside the existing Day Centre
Hi, thank you so much for your financial donations to this vital project for the future work of Kimbilio with children living on the streets of Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We haven't yet reached our target to enable work to begin on the first stage of the multi-purpose Day Centre, but we hope to do so soon. Our founding director, Ian Harvey, will be visiting Lubumbashi next month and Ian will be meeting with a couple of potential builders while he is there.
The need for a new Day Centre has been heightened due to the increased numbers of children who have been displaced by the conflict in the north of the country and who have made their way south to Lubumbashi. The cathedral is currently being used as the first point of contact with Kimbilio for these children but the new Day Centre will be able to provide better facilities for giving food and water, medical treatment and counselling.

Serving Meals at the Day Centre
Hi, thank you so much for your financial support for the Kimbilio project to build a multi-purpose street kids Centre to meet the needs of the children living on the streets of Lubumbashi in the DRC. The first stage of this big and important project is the ground floor of the new building and it will provide a safe place for children to come off the streets for care & support. There will be shower facilities, a kitchen and rooms for medical care, counselling and games.
This is a big and exciting project and we are well on the way to reaching the total that we need for Stage 1. The Cathedral in Lubumbashi is currently being used as the Day Centre, but it has not got all the facilities that we require, so the need is urgent. In 2024 we helped on average 38 boys and 9 girls at the the Day Centre every day that it was open. Many of the children were of junior school age, so the Kimbilio team of carers quickly tried to ascertain from these young children the reason for their leaving home and sought to establish communication with their families to effect a reintegration with a family member.
Thank you again for your support.

Providing food for children at the Day Centre
Hi,
Thank you so much for your financial support for this important Project to build a multi-purpose Street Kids Centre to replace the use of the Cathedral premises. It is so important to our work with street children that we have a modern building with good facilities so that we can fully respond to the needs of the children that come to the Day Centre.
The new Day Centre will be situated in the centre of Lubumbashi and will be easy to find for the street children who will come here three days a week. We have already purchased the plot of land for the new building and we are now well on the way to reaching the sum needed to begin the construction.
One of the facilities at the new Day Centre will be studios where the Kimbilio team of carers can talk with the children to understand how they came to be living on the streets and what support they need. Each child is treated with care and dignity.
