Agroforestry & fruit trees for Amazonian families

Dear friends,

As we prepare for our upcoming winter project this November and December, we are looking forward to returning to the banks of the Amazon and Napo rivers in the Loreto district of Peru!

This initiative is a deeply collaborative effort, co-designed directly with local residents to ensure community-led impact. Each year, communities select a rotating group of households to receive a large donation of 500+ trees to kickstart their personal agroforestry systems. Meanwhile, the rest of the community works together to plant or expand communal orchards while distributing smaller numbers of trees to the rest of the community so that every household benefits.

The program is thriving, with thousands of mature native and cultivated fruit varieties now maturing and producing food and ecosystem benefits along the riverbanks. Yet, with so many additional families and new communities asking to participate, our work is far from finished.

Growing organic, climate-adapted tropical Amazonian tree species, transporting supplies and tools to remote river communities, and placing experienced staff on the ground is an ambitious and funding-intensive task. Every contribution directly powers this mission – 90 cents of every dollar donated to FTPF goes straight to our on-the-ground program and planting costs.
