We will be planting fruit trees, which will provide nourishing meals and a source of income for a community of Cameroonian women.
A group of women in rural Cameroon have no way of generating income, as they cannot own land and most are uneducated. Malnutrition is common due to poor variety in the food supply, and many children lack important nutrients for growth. Deforestation and erosion are also problems, with limited attempts at planting saplings to reforest the area.
We will be working to plant 5,000 fruit trees. We will set up the nursery and teach the women to care for their trees so they will grow and produce the most fruit. Volunteers will teach the women basic business skills to make a profit from the fruit.
By reforesting the area with the fruit trees, it will create fresher air and greater food variety to help stave off malnutrition. Selling the fruit will generate income for the women, who will be able to provide for their children.
