Summary

Myanmar is facing a severe learning crisis, with 7 million children out of school and university enrollment plummeting by 90% since the 2021 military coup. Kant Kaw Taw online library will empower 200 vulnerable and marginalized youth through access to digital education. By bridging the digital divide, we transform risk into resilience - equipping youth with the tools to access education and livelihood opportunities, avoid perilous migration, and build sustainable futures.

Challenge

In Myanmar, three out of four university-age youth have lost access to education, and over half of school-age children are denied basic schooling - a crisis deepened by COVID-19 and the military coup. Amid armed conflict and digital surveillance, youth are seeking ways to continue learning and secure employment. With limited education and few livelihood options, many are compelled to migrate through unsafe, irregular pathways, increasing risks of exploitation and trafficking.

Solution

Digital education access in Myanmar remains limited, with low digital literacy nationwide. The project will deliver IT skills and digital safety training to at least 200 vulnerable youth, helping them navigate the internet securely, spot misinformation, and stay safe online. It will also translate and publish academic resources to ensure access to quality educational resources, provide internet stipends and practical training to support affordable education and research for at-risk students.

Long-Term Impact

The project will give vulnerable youth, students, and academics in conflict-affected areas of Myanmar access to quality digital learning materials otherwise beyond their reach. By enabling anytime and anywhere learning, it provides youth with learning opportunities and new pathways to secure their education and livelihoods. Over time, this will foster a resilient generation equipped to contribute meaningfully to Myanmar's future, breaking the cycle of limited access to education and uncertainty.
