Friends of John Paul School (FOJPS) is a Michigan-based nonprofit which founded and now partners with John Paul Secondary School (JPSS), a rural secondary school in Chelekura, Uganda. With donor support we've built classrooms, labs, and scholarships-opening doors for thousands of students who'd otherwise be unable to complete their schooling.
FOJPS is working to end the cycle of poverty in areas of remote Uganda. Through quality education and moral formation, we hope to equip our young people with the information and guidance they need to build a better life for not only themselves, but future generations of their families and community.
Our construction efforts are to provide the campus with additional classrooms, dormitories, teacher housing and other required structures needed to build capacity to accommodate the targeted student body. All school advancement is completed with an effort to develop and empower the surrounding community of Chelekura through focused local employment, training, sharing of water access/resources and a focus on local purchasing of supplies.
Our long-term impact is already visible in the rising literacy rates in Chelekura, the growth of small businesses around the school, and former students returning to mentor younger learners and give back to their community. This partnership between school advancement and intentional community empowerment lays a foundation for sustained competence, opportunity, and prosperity for generations to come.
