Grow Ghana is dedicated to providing high-quality after school ICT education is underprivileged communities. Currently, 78% of children leave school without basic IT skills, meaning this cycle of deprivation continues. In an ever-growing digital world, Grow Ghana ensures these rural children are not left behind, and learn practical I.T skills and tools. We currently operate in 7 schools, but with your support, we can reach more students to ensure rural children can access digital technologies.
Only 44% of schools in Ghana have access to computers but Grow Ghana is here to change that. IT skills are part of the school curriculum, but state schools do not have the resources to provide physical resources, meaning students rely on Grow Ghana to translate their knowledge into practical skills. This will allow for students to be able to have access to a wider range of opportunities in an increasingly digital world, increasing later working opportunities.
We have been teaching since 2019, but with your support, we can increase the number of students we reach to ensure every child gets an education in digital literacy. We aim to provide each child with a computer and regular lessons to build and maintain the necessary IT skills needed today. Our target is to build an IT lab in a central local school to address the current digital inequality. We have witnessed the transformative nature of our work, which starts by introducing students to laptops.
This project ensures students leave school with the skills needed to be able to apply to jobs and work in digital technology fields in the future. We aim to expand our team to be able to double the number of schools we currently work in from 7 to 14. We aspire to build another IT lab to ensure students have regular access to technologies. This will not only enrich the specific school, but the wider local community.
