Spring Report

By Joey | Programmes Director

Hi everyone,

Spring has arrived here in the UK, although our school communities in Nepal have been experiencing heavy rains as the rainy season is in full flow.

Despite the ensuing power cuts and flooding, our team have been working sterlingly to continue improving the quality of and access to education for every child in the municipality.

This month we have continued with resource provision across 8 schools and over 800 school bags and much needed stationery. Not only are they useful resources to support learning, but they also help improve access. With lovely presentation events families can see that government schools can be enticing places to go - with the visuals of school bags and colourful educational materials encouraging children to be part of the school community. Pujana said:

“I love having school bag, I wear it proudly as part of my school when I walk through the village”

When you consider this her first school bag, and 54% of girls drop out of school before the age of 14, it is fantastic to hear her enthusiasm.

Importantly, we have also facilitated Teacher Training in partnership with Kathmandu university. Over 70 teachers have completed 3 days training in creative classroom environments, classroom management, as well as some safeguarding and health and wellbeing work. Teachers are now sharing knowledge, resources and communicating better - an added outcome which can only improve the school communities and networks across the municipality.

We also have continued with work on our sister schools project, with a number live link ups between Milford-on-Sea Primary School and Kushadevi School as well as cultural workshops where the children are learning about what they have in common and what they can learn that is different a bout each other’s communities.

We couldn’t do this amazing work without your support. We are so very grateful for you continuing to put your faith in what we do.

Thank you,

Joey and all the team.
