The Freedom to Education Programme (FEP) currently supports 36 university students in India with education scholarships. Students come from low-income families, refugee communities, and internally displaced populations. Eight are studying medical subjects, 11 engineering, and others science and humanities. Students have attended classes regularly, improved academically, and benefited from monitoring, evaluation, and pastoral care. Eight are expected to graduate in 2026.
Under the Crisis to Classroom Project, 34 Class 12 students were supported from 2024 to 2026 in Siaha, Mizoram. Students also benefited from prayer, pastoral care, community service, career counselling, food, accommodation, and medical services. All 34 sat their final examinations in early 2026, and 32 passed, an amazing 94% pass rate.
Testimonials
Khin (name changed) who recently passed Class 12 with distinction in all his subjects, shared how conflict, displacement, and the loss of his father, murdered by armed forces, deeply affected his family:
“As a refugee, we often witnessed health-related problems like typhoid, common cold, malaria, accidents, etc. In most cases, we could not get proper medical treatment, which worsened the patients’ conditions. Sometimes it led to death, even at an early age. Some diseases spread very quickly. These cases also happened in many parts of Chin State.
These experiences made me more determined to become a doctor and serve villages and rural areas. This ambition continues to push me to study hard and not give up.”
"My name is Chit (name changed), and I am a Person with a Disability (PWD) student in the Class 12 Arts stream from Rakhine State. When I first joined the FEP program, I had many doubts and felt confused because I came from a different ethnicity, religion, and cultural background. However, after spending several months with my new friends and teachers, I began to feel comfortable and started enjoying my life in Siaha, Mizoram. My friends and teachers have been very kind and supportive.
Since joining the Health and Hope Program, I have improved greatly in many areas of my life. Honestly, the two years I have spent in India have given me a better life compared to what I experienced in my village.I would like to sincerely thank my supporters and the Health and Hope Program."
Thank you so much for your interest and support.
