Dear supporters,
I am super excited to share our progress in setting up a SARE design tailoring shop as a sustainable solution to providing uniforms to marginalized students in the Western Kenya communities. We have managed to finish the construction process for, we have also bought 2 electrical sewing machines, 1 manual sewing machine, an overlock machine, some basic sewing accessories (threads, needle, zips, thimbles, scissors) etc. This has been a GREAT deal to us because it has enabled us to effectively launch the shop which is now serving as a manufacturing source of high quality uniforms for these needy students within our community.
All these were courtesy of your contributions and therefore we do not take anything for granted. We have already provided 4000 students with full school uniforms so far. Our goal is to provide 10,000 students from about 30 secondary schools with school uniforms by the end of the year!We still strongly believe that every child deserves access to education, regardless of their socio-economic background.
Also, meet Rose, our first hired tailor at the shop with the aim of providing a livelihood to a group of skilled tailors. She is so dedicated in making the uniforms throughout the year to empower the 6,000 more rural girls and boys to feel confident and comfortable in their school attire. In addition, we have partnered with local tailors for the project to be able to scale its impact and reach more students in rural areas of Kenya, providing them with access to education. We plan to recruit about 3 interns from local vocational training colleges for 3 months and 2 young women for a year who will be trained on dress making, entrepreneurship, personal development and also they will receive loans to enable them start their own businesses.
Wow! SARE designs shop might not have developed this much without your support! We hope you will join us HERE in helping these students access education and also improving economic resilience of youths and young women by providing them with small loans, training, and encouragement to start small businesses that support their families.
