12th Summer Academy is coming
Thank you for supporting our free Summer Academy which is taking place this summer for the 12th consecutive year!
As we are busy planning and preparing for it, we wanted to share with you that after two years of online Summer Academy due to the pandemic, we are preparing for a live edition this summer. Students and teachers are looking forward to meeting in person and having meaningful experiences during the three weeks of summer classes. We expect up to 500 students to join the classes in two schools in Sofia. We are following the situation as the safety of teachers and students remains our priority and we are ready to adapt the format if needed.
We know that with the end of the school year coming, the summer vacation so longed for by the students comes. The summer months are a well-deserved time of rest for both students and teachers, but one of the great myths about this period is that learning should be paused during the holidays. Learning is the way we all, regardless of age, grow and develop as individuals and professionals. Summer is a time for games, but also for discovering new interests, new friendships, and exploring areas for which there is sometimes no time left during the school year.
This is why this year Teach For Bulgaria’s team has prepared an exciting program for the students in Summer Academy. From 19 July to 5 August the team of motivated teachers will help the students to make a smooth transition between the two school years. According to various international studies, students lag behind the most and lose pace in the summer. With the long vacation in Bulgaria, this is a factor that should not be overlooked by parents and students. The last school year has been difficult and uncertain for many students, and summer activities can be very helpful in gaining knowledge or preparing for the new school year.
The Summer Academy is organised so that each child can find their own balance - in addition to the morning classes covering main school topics, there is an opportunity for additional activities such as writing an online newspaper, running interest clubs, and working on projects. In addition, parents can choose the child's class when enrolling and thus emphasize the consolidation of knowledge or preparation for this school year.
We believe that the Summer Academy is also beneficial for the teachers in terms of their motivation for work from September onwards. For many of them, Summer Academy is their first experience in teaching in a classroom and it helps them to get to know the students better and improve their teaching skills. The last two years have been challenging for the motivation of the teachers and in-person contact with students is a rewarding and valuable experience for every teacher joining our program “A New Way to Teaching”.
If you would like for your child to attend the Summer Academy or are thinking of someone else who might be interested to join check out the registration page here.
We are excited for this year’s Summer Academy and are looking forward to meeting teachers and students in the classrooms!
With sincere gratitude,
Teach For Bulgaria team
