As a new school year begins in Spain, SOS Children's Villages is helping 4,685 children and adolescents, together with 1,807 families, access the resources and support they need to continue learning and developing.
For families experiencing financial hardship, the start of the school year can bring significant additional expenses. In response, our 30 Day Centers are supporting 4,452 children and adolescents and 1,605 families across Spain. Children receive essential school supplies, textbooks, clothing, footwear and hygiene products, as well as ongoing educational support.
This support continues throughout the year. In the afternoons, children and adolescents can receive academic reinforcement and take part in educational workshops, recreational and sports activities, cultural outings and shared snacks. Our teams also prioritize their mental health and emotional well-being.
Supporting children also means working alongside their families. In the mornings, our Day Centers offer activities designed to strengthen parenting skills, as well as training in areas such as digital literacy and employment opportunities. Multidisciplinary teams of education, social work, psychology and pedagogy professionals carry out this work with volunteers and in coordination with schools, therapists and Social Services.
Early childhood education is another important part of this effort. Our five Early Childhood Education Centers in Cuenca, Granada, San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Zaragoza currently support 233 children between the ages of 0 and 3 and 202 families.
These centers provide personalized educational support while promoting healthy habits and positive parenting practices. They also bring together children from different family circumstances in an inclusive environment where they can learn, interact and develop during a crucial stage of childhood.
Through this comprehensive support, SOS Children's Villages is working with children and families throughout the school year so that financial circumstances do not become a barrier to education, development and participation.
