Summary

Nyarugusu Refugee Camp in Kigoma hosts thousands of vulnerable refugees, including elderly people and orphaned children who face serious health challenges, UNHCR reported that 78% make up population of children and Women. Many cannot afford transportation, medicines, diagnostic tests, or specialized treatment. This project will provide free medical consultations, medicines, health screenings, and referrals for the most vulnerable refugees. The initiative will support elders and Orphans Refugees.

Challenge

Many elderly refugees suffer from chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, and poor eyesight without adequate medical support. Orphaned children frequently experience malnutrition, infections, and untreated health conditions. Health facilities often face shortages of medicines, equipment, and resources needed for vulnerable patients. Limited income and dependency prevent many refugees from accessing quality healthcare services. Women, who represent about half of the refugees.

Solution

The project will organize regular free medical outreach clinics within the refugee camp. Medical teams will provide consultations, treatment, health screenings, essential medicines, and referrals when needed. Special attention will be given to elderly women, elderly men, and orphaned children with chronic or urgent health conditions. Health education sessions will promote disease prevention, hygiene, nutrition, and medication adherence. Community health volunteers will help identify vulnerables.

Long-Term Impact

Improved access to healthcare will reduce preventable illness, disability, and mortality among elderly refugees and orphans. Early diagnosis and treatment will help manage chronic diseases and improve quality of life. Healthier children will have better opportunities for education and development. Strengthened community health awareness will encourage preventive healthcare practices.The project will create a healthier and more resilient refugee community with reduced healthcare burdens over time
