As of February 2026, Headfort Foundation has successfully secured the release of 46 poor and innocent inmates across Nigeria’s correctional centers.
These individuals were not hardened criminals. Many were wrongfully detained or held for prolonged periods simply because they could not afford legal representation or meet bail conditions. Some had been awaiting trial for years without proper legal support.
Through the dedication of our legal team and the generous support of donors like you, we provided pro bono legal representation, facilitated court processes, engaged with correctional authorities, and advocated for fair hearings.
The result?
46 individuals reunited with their families.
46 lives restored with dignity.
46 stories rewritten.
Beyond securing releases, this project continues to address systemic issues contributing to overcrowding in correctional facilities, particularly the high number of awaiting-trial inmates without legal representation.
