Healthcare is a major concern for the destitute elderly in India. Agewell Foundation has identified over 2000 destitute elderly who urgently need healthcare equipment/medical attention. Agewell will provide a range of healthcare equipment to destitute and bedridden elderly including: wheelchairs, walkers, adult diapers, spectacles, hearing aids and medicines to elderly patients.
Due to the fast declining nature of their physical and mental health, elderly people are the most susceptible to various diseases and health hazards. The main health related problems of the destitute elderly are: kidney and eye related diseases, tuberculosis, arthritis and osteoporosis, dementia/Alzheimer's disease, blood pressure issues, heart problems and heart attacks, cancer, diabetes and prostate enlargement.
Through this project, Agewell volunteers will provide destitute older people living in Indian slums with the medical help and support they need. Agewell Foundation has a team of volunteers, who constantly remain in touch with affected elderly people and provide them all the help possible. Agewell volunteers will procure healthcare equipment, organise health check camps and distribute healthcare equipment and medicines to needy elderly.
In the long-term, the project will provide elderly people and their families live more comfortable lives, and increase the level of awareness among elderly and their family members about the issues to enable the creation of an older persons friendly environment within their society.
This project has provided additional documentation in a Microsoft Word file (projdoc.doc).
