In Dhaka, children risk their lives daily working on toxic waste sites. Their families have no other option but to take them out of school. Often they have migrated in search of a better life, only to end up risking their health to work in one of the world's largest dump sites. This project provides vital education, shelter and care to stop children being forced to scavenge. With community support, they gain safety, vital skills and their families can access healthcare and livelihood support.
Each day in Dhaka, hundreds of children scavenge one of the city's largest landfills, exposed to disease, exploitation and trauma. Forced to support their families, these children miss out on education, healthcare and safety, locking them into a cycle of poverty and danger.
This project offers children an escape from the dump site. We provide safe shelter, education, nutritious meals and emotional support, empowering children and their families to build new futures away from hazardous waste-picking.
By preventing children from returning to the landfill and reintegrating them into education, we break the intergenerational cycle of poverty. Empowered with knowledge, safety and dignity, these children can shape healthier, more hopeful lives - with choice and autonomy.
