During Earth Week (April 22-28, 2019) Clean Sweep Frederiksted is hosting a town-wide Spring Clean-Up. We are encouraging the community to join forces to collect and safely dispose of litter from our streets, parks, and beaches and declare that litter degrades the beauty of our environment and is not acceptable.
Frederiksted is a historic district port town located on the island of Saint Croix in the United States Virgin Islands listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Once a thriving and vibrant community over the past 30 years Frederiksted has experienced serious economic decline resulting in high unemployment and poverty. These issues are visually manifested in the excessively high amounts of litter present in the community.
The spring clean up is a way to encourage residents to become actively engaged in the revitalization of the community through volunteerism. Utilizing the collective strength of the community to inspire grassroots social change.
A litter-free community is good for the environment, but most importantly it improves mental and physical health, increases property values, shows others that residents care about where they live and encourages economic growth. A litter-free community is a vibrant community.
