The challenges brought about by the recent pandemic where construction was literally halted and the rising challenges of the universal global warming has led to the revision in the buidling design to the use of SIP or Structural Insulated Panels.
Structural Insulated Panels (SIP) are panels that consist of insulating foam core sandwiched between two structural facings that is fabricated to fit most building design. Since the Foundation Preparatory Academy Science Wing are classrooms that include science laboratories fo Junior High School and Senior High School students.
Revising the design by using SIP has advantages to address certain issues that were taken into consideration:
a. SIP panels deliver exceptional insulation and airtightness which reduces energy costs. It is known to save at least 50% more energy efficiency.
b. There is better control over indoor air quality because of its airtightness which in turn filters out contaminants and allergens.
c. SIPs are highly energy-efficient and contribute positively to the environment by reducing CO2 levels.
d. SIP walls and roofs can allow fast construction reducing labor costs such as project management, scaffolding and others.
The revision of the building design by using SIP is very positive move on the part of construction. Health of the students is a primary concern of the university that during classroom hours it is ensured that it provides a healty indoor environment free from mold and mildew or any harmful airborne pollutants. At the same time, the university maintains its stand in promoting an eco friendly and sustainable environment on campus.
