The institution offers the training Ame Sua Mente na Escola (Love Your Mind at School) for educators and school managers from the public school system in Brazil, providing specific knowledge in mental health focusing on youth. The project aims to establish a new mental health culture in schools environment and, thus, work on preventing mental disorders in youth, reducing stigmas and solving mental health issues related to learning processes.
25% of people present some mental disorder, 50% of the cases up to age 14 and 80% of these situations are not identified or do not receive treatment. This scenario, in a great part, is a result of lack of knowledge and stigma surrounding the subject. Some of the immediate consequences of untreated mental health problems in children and young people are reading delays, learning deficits, grade repetition, and school dropout, in addition to compromising adult life in its various aspects.
The course provides educators with specific knowledge of youth mental health. Thus, educators are trained to not only identify, manage, and refer possible cases at school but also to use the information for their own mental health. The goal is to expand the educator's level of knowledge about strategies for management, prevention, and stigma reduction surrounding mental disorders. Mood and anxiety disorders, anxiety disorders, ADHD, and drugs are some of the topics covered during the training.
Foster the culture of mental health in Brazil so that people can take charge of their emotional development and self-care from an early age and thus fulfill their potentials, prevent mental disorders, and contribute to society. We expect to expand educators' ability to promote mental health and manage situations at school, as well as improve school performance of individuals with mental health disorders and reduce school dropout among them.
