Restoration and Biodiversity Update

Seed collecting

Hello from the forest!

The Iracambi team is excited to share some great news about our work over the past few months. We have been working hard to care for the forests we have planted and help them continue to grow strong and healthy. This includes controlling leaf-cutter ants, which can be a major challenge for young trees, and managing invasive grasses that compete with native seedlings for space, water, and sunlight.

At the same time, our native tree nursery remains busy. We continue collecting seeds from local forests, growing new seedlings, preparing planting materials, and caring for thousands of young trees that will soon become part of future restoration efforts. Every seed collected and every seedling nurtured brings us one step closer to restoring a healthier Atlantic Forest.

One particularly exciting highlight from our environmental monitoring efforts was the recent record of a Puma (Puma concolor), one of Brazil’s most iconic wild cats. As a top predator that requires large, connected habitats to survive, the presence of a puma is a powerful indicator of ecosystem health and ecological recovery. This sighting demonstrates that the forests you have helped restore are increasingly providing suitable habitat for wildlife and reinforces the positive impact of our long-term restoration work in the Atlantic Forest landscape.

Moments like this remind us that every tree planted contributes not only to climate resilience and water security, but also to the return of biodiversity and the restoration of thriving ecosystems.

Upcoming opportunity to increase your impact: On July 15, 2026, Iracambi will participate in GlobalGiving’s July Bonus Day Campaign. Donations made during the 24-hour campaign period—from July 15 at 10:00 AM EDT to July 16 at 10:00 AM EDT—will be eligible for bonus matching funds, allowing your support to have an even greater impact on forest restoration and biodiversity conservation.
