Kigezi Healthcare Foundation has trained 25 teachers in rabbit breeding in five high schools as a pilot project to eventually train the students so that so that additional income can be generated to support their Education. The rate of school drop out is very high and that is mainly related to poverty affecting many families especially in rural areas. The teachers will be given rabbits and eventually they will be giving the rabbits to the students. The age range of our high school students is from 13 to 18 years.
We plan to develop enterprise development clubs in these schools to equip the students with basic business skills as they embark on the rabbit rearing project.Research has continually shown that students learn best through the active practice of skills. Starting a business in school in a safe and supportive team environment is the best way to experiment, learn, and put these crucial skills to the test. Many Educate Student Business Clubs were operating across Uganda last year, and of those, and a number of them had a profitable project Our team will learn and benchmark from some of the success stories. The atmosphere of Nationals exemplifies this attitude of innovation and experimentation, and we are always so proud and inspired to witness the creative businesses students can launch when they are equipped with the skills, they need to make their ideas a reality. We thank our partners and well wishers in this project. We hope and pray that the project will attain self-sustainability as we go along.
