Dear Supporter,
Waves Ahead continues to strengthen its Food Sustainability Program across its four community centers located in San Juan, Isabela, Maunabo, and Cabo Rojo, ensuring that older adults, LGBTQ+ individuals, and other community members experiencing food insecurity have reliable access to food boxes and education. Despite ongoing funding challenges, the program has maintained regular food distributions while expanding partnerships with local food bank, food donors, and community volunteers to improve the accesibility to appropiate food options.
In recent months, the program has also increased its focus on long-term food security by integrating nutrition education, healthy meal preparation recipes, and community engagement activities into food distribution events. Every month more than 325 individuals receive a food box.
These efforts strengthened social connections, decreased isolation among participants, and reinforced the four community centers as safe, welcoming spaces where community members can access essential resources with dignity and respect.
In addition, everyone who access this program also has access to case managerment services, mental health supports including individual or group sessions, and connections to a wide array of referrals from employment readiness, lawyers, and others.
Thanks to your support, we will continue the work ahead.
In Solidarity,
Wilfred
