Dear All,
As we begin this update, we find ourselves grappling with some significant challenges here in South Africa. It’s summer, and the power shortages have led to electricity being cut off for 3-4 hours at a time, 2-3 times a day.
We’ve experienced an overwhelming amount of rainfall over the past three weeks, leaving us almost underwater. This is a stark contrast to just three years ago when we were preparing for “Day Zero” - the day we feared Cape Town would run out of water. Now, we find ourselves in the midst of a water crisis.
The situation has been challenging as we can’t access our home-grown produce. We’ve had to prepare packed lunches for the children to collect, as without our food, these children go hungry. This has led to a 250% increase in our monthly food bill.
Donations have been slower than expected, and while we’ve received support from local shops and community members, we need much more help to navigate through this difficult period.
We are immensely grateful to everyone who has reached out to help us through volunteering, fundraising, and donating food to our project. We’re looking forward to a brighter future and are confident that with your continued support, we can overcome these challenges.
Thank you for your unwavering support.
