Nutrition & Health Support for 5,000 Children

By Raju Joseph | Founder Secretary

Nutrition & Health Support for 5,000 Vulnerable Children

Organization: Society for Poor People Development (SPPD)
Location: Tamil Nadu, India
Reporting Period: Current Quarter

Project Snapshot

  • Total Goal: USD 600,000
  • Remaining: USD 599,980
  • Raised via GlobalGiving: USD 20
  • Donors: 1
  • Monthly Donors: 0
  • Project Duration on Platform: 4 months

We sincerely thank GlobalGiving and our first donor for supporting this critical initiative. Even a small contribution gives hope to children and families in urgent need.

How This Project Began

During the COVID-19 pandemic, schools were closed for extended periods. Many parents lost daily wage work, and the government mid-day meal scheme was disrupted. Children—especially from women-headed and HIV-affected households—were left without reliable nutrition.

Fearing rising malnutrition and protein deficiency, SPPD launched this nutrition initiative to protect children from hunger and long-term health damage.

For the past six years, we have consistently supported vulnerable children.
Currently, 1,350 children receive nutrition support on a monthly basis.

The Challenge

In rural Tamil Nadu, many children still face:

  • Chronic poverty and food insecurity
  • Malnutrition, anemia, and growth stunting
  • Limited access to healthcare
  • Poor learning outcomes due to weak health

Children from single-mother, abandoned, widowed, and HIV-affected families are the most at risk.

Our Solution

This project provides monthly nutrition kits to children aged 1–18 years, including:

  • Cereals and staple foods
  • Protein-rich nutritional items
  • Essential vitamins and minerals

The program also includes:

  • Basic health monitoring
  • Nutrition awareness for mothers
  • Guidance on sustainable food practices

This integrated approach strengthens immunity, improves concentration, reduces illness, and supports healthy growth.

Current Impact

  • 1,350 children currently supported every month
  • Improved appetite, energy levels, and immunity reported by families
  • Better school attendance and classroom participation observed
  • Reduced stress and anxiety among mothers

Although USD 20 has been raised on GlobalGiving so far, this early support motivates us to continue expanding the program toward 5,000 children.

Gratitude to Our Partners & Volunteers

This work would not be possible without the generous support and collaboration of our partners and community.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to:

  • Give.do
  • Myriad USA
  • All our dedicated volunteers, who work tirelessly to identify families, distribute nutrition kits, and monitor child health

Together, your support strengthens our mission to ensure that no child suffers from hunger or malnutrition.

Long-Term Impact

With continued support, this project will:

  • Reduce malnutrition and anemia
  • Improve immunity and long-term child health
  • Enhance school attendance and academic performance
  • Strengthen women-headed households
  • Build healthier, more resilient rural communities

Closing Note

We thank GlobalGiving, Give.do, Myriad USA, donors, volunteers, and well-wishers for standing with vulnerable children. The journey is long, but with your continued support, we can secure a healthier future for thousands of children.

In our next quarterly report, we will share real stories of children whose lives have changed through this nutrition support.

With gratitude,
Raju Joseph
