Project Overview and Consolidation

During Months 10–12, the project focused on consolidating lessons and outcomes from earlier community engagement and pilot-level activities conducted throughout Months 1–9. Given the current level of funds raised through GlobalGiving, PDA prioritised responsible stewardship, monitoring, and sustainability of existing efforts rather than initiating new or expanded interventions.

Activities During This Period

Building on earlier consultations, training sessions, and small-scale gardening demonstrations carried out using existing organisational and local resources, PDA undertook the following during this quarter:

  • Follow-up visits to elderly households to observe how previously introduced gardening practices were being maintained and adapted over time.
  • Ongoing technical guidance on seasonal planting, basic pest management, and efficient water use, with particular attention to elderly-friendly and low-labour methods.
  • Informal monitoring of existing vegetable plots and household gardens to assess practical outcomes, challenges, and sustainability.

No new major infrastructure or large-scale inputs were introduced during this reporting period. GlobalGiving funds continue to be managed cautiously and reserved to ensure transparent and appropriate use when sufficient resources are available to proceed at scale.

Outcomes and Learning

Elderly participants continued to grow vegetables primarily for household consumption, contributing to reduced food expenses and improved daily nutrition. Many participants reported a strong sense of satisfaction in being able to maintain their gardens independently, reinforcing dignity, routine, and social value.

The project team also learned that gradual, low-intensity support combined with family involvement helps elderly participants sustain activities safely, even under constrained funding conditions.

Challenges

The key challenge remains the pace of fundraising on the GlobalGiving platform. While donor interest has been encouraging, available funds are still insufficient to fully implement or expand the project as originally designed.

Next Steps

In the next phase, PDA will:

  • continue light-touch monitoring and advisory support using existing resources,
  • maintain engagement with current elderly participants to safeguard sustainability, and
  • intensify fundraising efforts to enable the use of GlobalGiving funds for expanded vegetable systems and water solutions once adequate funding is secured.

Appreciation

We sincerely thank all donors for their continued support and encouragement. Every contribution helps sustain this project and brings us closer to strengthening food security, dignity, and self-reliance for rural elderly communities in Thailand.
