Progress So Far
During this quarter, we focused on setting up the physical infrastructure to enable sustainable gardening for elderly participants. Key activities included:
Distribution of planting tools and seed starter kits to all 30 elderly households.
Construction of elderly-friendly raised vegetable plots to ensure easy access and maintenance.
Installation of solar-powered water systems to provide reliable irrigation and reduce labour burdens.
Initial planting of vegetables such as leafy greens, cucumbers, and beans, with households beginning to see early growth.
Community Outcomes and Achievements
With the new systems in place, elderly participants can now manage their gardens more independently. The use of solar-powered irrigation has reduced the physical strain of watering, while the raised plots make cultivation more manageable. Families report that vegetables are already growing well, contributing to daily meals and reducing expenses. The sense of pride and usefulness among participants continues to strengthen, reinforcing the dignity and independence that this project aims to promote.
Next Steps
Provide follow-up visits to guide participants on seasonal planting and pest management.
Continue monitoring the performance of solar irrigation systems and adjust as needed.
Document progress and prepare the upcoming report for wider sharing.
We remain committed to supporting elderly households in Nang Rong to achieve greater food security, and we are grateful for the ongoing encouragement from donors.
