Capacity Building Activities (Month 4)

In response to community interest, we organised a hands-on vegetable gardening workshopfor elderly participants and their family members. The training covered:

•Preparing soil and planting vegetables in raised containers

•Producing photosynthetic microorganisms for natural pest control

•Growing bean sprouts in plastic containers

•Cultivating oyster mushrooms in cement rings

•Distributing gardening kits and vegetable seeds to elderly households

These practical skills help households enhance food security and improve daily nutrition while opening pathways to small-scale income.

Community Outcomes and Achievements (Month 5–6)

Following the training, many elderly participants began cultivating vegetables around their homes. Several grandmothers proudly reported harvesting morning glory, lettuce, and herbs, which not only reduce household food expenses but also restore their sense of independence and dignity.

The presence of elderly-friendly raised beds and family engagement made these efforts sustainable and empowering. One participant shared, “This is the first time in years I feel useful again. I can eat what I grow.”

Next Steps

As we enter the next quarter, we plan to:

•Offer seasonal planting advice and follow-up visits

•Support simple irrigation solutions for elderly-friendly plots

•Expand outreach to more elderly households in nearby villages

We deeply appreciate the continued support from donors. Your contributions have directly uplifted the lives of elderly individuals who now grow not just vegetables—but also confidence and hope.
