It is estimated that 50,000 people in Madagascar suffer from malnutrition due to food shortages and drought. We have been actively engaged on the south of the island since 2017, meeting basic needs. We provide nutrition through the Norova school to over 500 children and assisting more than 8,000 severely malnourished children annually. To sustain our efforts in combating acute malnutrition over the next year, it requires 12,000 kilograms of powdered milk and 1,200 cans of baby formula.
In southern Madagascar, a perfect storm of severe drought intensified by climate change and compounded by severe food shortages has plunged over 1.25 million people into acute food insecurity. This crisis disproportionately impacts women and children, heightening their vulnerability to severe malnutrition and its life-threatening effects.
Since 2017, Fraternity Without Borders has been actively engaged on the island, annually assisting over 8,000 severely malnourished children. To sustain our efforts in combating acute malnutrition among children aged 0-7, we require 12,000 kilograms of powdered milk and 1,104 boxes of baby formula, amounting to an estimated cost of $132,480 for the next year. Proper nutrition will allow brain development for these children to attend school.
We believe that ensuring adequate nutrition for children is pivotal in fostering effective learning and development for future students. By providing nutritious meals, our organization aims to empower children not only to excel academically but also to emerge as future leaders capable of tackling food security challenges and driving regional development for generations. This holistic approach prepares them to contribute meaningfully to their communities and build a sustainable future.
