Food Security and Agriculture Project’s Report

Our dear friends,

On behalf of Darfur Women Network (DWN), I would like to say thank you so much for your support and donations.  Special thanks go out to GlobalGiving, which provides us with an online avenue to gain partnerships and for connecting us with our generous donors. 

Our survivors of Darfur genocide who were farmers before fleeing their villages to cross the border into the Touloum refugee camp in Chad are still hungry.  This summer, a few refugees are growing little food specifically okra and milt.

Since I Invite you to our Bonus Day to present, we raised over $400 thank you for your generosity. Yesterday, I talked to our International Director in N’djamena, he told me that our permission to implement the Agriculture and soap making is waiting for interior Minister’s signature. 

The DWN is still calling for you and those who support war-effected people to help us to secure input like donkey’s plough, seeds, and land to enable the survivors of Darfur genocide to grow their own food to refuse hunger in the refugees’ camp.  Hello our Donors and supporters,

On March 9, 2015, I promised you to keep you updated and to walk step by step until together achieve our project goal. The Food Security & Agriculture project was created to benefit the Darfur refugees in the camp.  We appreciate your generous donation of $570, and we feel that you with us together on this project, therefore we invite you to our unique Bonus Day offers by Globalgiving. Any penny comes in will help at this critical time. We are in stage of preparing to implement this project. Our volunteer staff in the camp talked to me yesterday and today on phone. Our good news is that the local community-Chadians, are ready to rent their land to us and our staff are in the negotiation process. Our staff in N’djamena found are ready to purchase plough that is pulled by donkeys called donkey plough and other farming tools, but we are short of fund even to secure two donkey plough and one donkey in addition to seeds.

I grantee that the success of this project unless there is natural factors like climate. In fact, many of the survivors of Darfur genocide were farmers before fleeing their villages to cross the border into the Touloum refugee camp in Chad. Upon arrival in the camp, they lack the resources to cultivate and grow their own food. The Food World Program only provides them with small portions to feed their whole families. Your donations will help provide these families with the resources to provide enough food to keep everyone fed, and even provide a source of income.

We decided that will start our project to benefit elderly women and women with disability who are head of house hold in the Darfur refugee’s camp.  Rain is expected to fall in June, so we have short time to complete our preparation to help the survivors of genocide to feed their children and to transfer them from dependency to self –sufficiency.
