Project report Food Forest

By Gijs Tolmeijer | Organisation & Business Development Coordinator

Our project focuses on creating a digital platform that empowers food forests to quantify, register, and showcase their true ecological and social value. Food forests provide multiple benefits—carbon sequestration, biodiversity enhancement, soil regeneration, and community resilience—yet their contributions often remain invisible in conventional economic systems.

Over the past phase, we successfully developed a concept platform that serves as a digital hub for food forest initiatives worldwide. The prototype allows users to register their forest, input data on biodiversity, carbon storage, and social impact, and visualize their contributions through interactive dashboards. This transparent system highlights the measurable benefits of regenerative practices and encourages collaboration among land stewards, researchers, and policymakers.

The next step is further development and public launch. We are now seeking subsidies to advance the platform’s functionality, integrate reliable data models, and expand outreach to communities globally. By scaling this initiative, we aim to make the hidden value of food forests visible—fostering recognition, funding, and replication of these vital ecosystems.

Through this project, we hope to shift perspectives from exploitation to regeneration, building a society that values nature not just for its products, but for its enduring life-supporting functions.
